September 25, 2012 16 Comments
Autodesk 3ds Max 2013 released a patch to enable Revit 2013 to 3ds Max 2013 RPC Content support. The patch does require the user to install some updates. To enable interoperability, please follow the following steps:
1) Download the FBX Plug-in Update.

2) Download the 3ds Max 2013 product update.

Once both updates have been applied, simply Export from Revit as an FBX file and then Import into 3ds Max and all RPCs included should be present and render correctly.

Why couldnt this be so much easier?
We agree that it should be easier for users, however, the Autodesk application update for 3ds Max 2013 was not released until September. As a result, a 2-step update is required. However, if you are using 3ds Max 2013 with Service Pack 2, no further action is required on the user behalf to support interoperability.
Is this is only for 3ds max or can use also for 3ds max design? I have 3ds max design and i fail to install the update (keep getting massage that the software is not existing in my machine or the path is not exist. any ideas?
Lior – It is supported with 3ds Max Design. Please email us at support@archvision.com and we will see what is going on.
I am also getting the message about the program not existing. Is there a fix for this?
Ensure you have the RPC Plugin installed and configured for 3ds Max. If you need to obtain the RPC Plugin you can download ArchVision Dashboard to access: https://archvision.com/ For Revit to 3ds Max 2013 interop ensure you have Autodesk’s patch release version 2 installed for 3ds Max 2013. Our support team is available M-F 9-5 pm ET and can set up a GoToMeeting to assist with troubleshooting further, support@archvision.com Thank you for your post.
I updated 3ds max design 2013 with autodesk’s update #6, installed the most recent FBX, installed dasboard & from there installed the RCP plugin for 3dsmax design 2013. no worky. No RCP or archvision itemsi n the create object drop down, nothing listed in plug in manager. impoted FBX from revit with RCP trees, no trees just little boxes that list as RCP trees. Tried to render just to make sure, and no trees.
Did a google search to investigate & kept getting redrected to some BS site (for anything returned from google search). did a system restore. re-installed eveything mentioned above. same results incuding the redirect BS. trying to do system restore again as I type this from another machine.
Service pack 2 (September 2012) restored interoperability, however, Autodesk’s subsequent FBX plug-in update release broke the support. Autodesk was notified of the “bug” and we are awaiting resolution from them at this time.
I’ve recently installed the fbx-plugin and the product update of 3ds Max Design 2013. By importing the fbx-file I only see rpc-dummy’s. What am i doing wrong?
Service pack 2 (September 2012) restored interoperability, however, Autodesk’s subsequent FBX plug-in update release broke the support. Please verify the service pack installed to ensure interoperability. Autodesk is working to resolve with future updates.
I’ve installed “Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2013 Product Update 6” and the “FBX 2013.3 Plug-in for 3ds Max Design 2013” Where can i download SP2? I don’t find it on the autodesk-site
Scroll to the bottom of the FBX download page and click on Plug-in and Converter Archives. Here you will find the FBX 2013.2 which will work perfectly.
